The Rise Of Hackerpreneurs

Last week Ash and I were interviewed on the BobBloom podcast show from the www.southlasallemedia.com  and we talked about the Anahita Social Networking Engine project and how Anahitapolis.com has become an environment for Hackers, Entrepreneurs, and Hackerpreneurs to build and launch their business or hobby projects using the open source infrastructure that we are providing.

We also discuss how the new generation of hackers and developers who have become entrepreneurs are the very competitive forces in technology market.

TinyRecipe App Coming to the iPhone Near You

We have just launched the landing page for a new project of ours called TinyRecipe. It will be a mobile social networking app so people can share and find recipes that are 200 characters or less accompanied by a picture.

Imagine if you could post a recipe like this:

Cut a +baguette into slices and toast slightly +sundriedtomato +goatcheese +cilantro or +basil w/ chilled +whitewine of choice #appetizer #fingerfood

And that was done in 149 characters where + identifies the main ingredients and # hashtags for the folksonomy (categories)

Working on many different projects in the past several years one of the skills that we had to acquire was to learn and come up with quick and short recipes that are healthy and don’t take up much time. When you devote your life into building technologies that are about real time and short bit sharing of information over the net and mobile networks, it will eventually start to affect your eating habits as well.

This idea first came to me after listening to a BBC podcast about people who were already sharing small food recipes over twitter in 140 characters. Being a flickr addict for many years I’ve been aware of the popularity of food recipes and pictures in many flickr groups. Problem is that all the existing available options for sharing small simple recipes are either not specialized and specific enough, such as twitter, facebook, flickr, or they are way too elaborate and aiming towards people who would want to play chefs in their kitchens.

I figured that we need better tools and services for sharing our edible creations. It is one of the many ways that we connect with others and express who we are.

I even tried pitching the idea to a few of our clients but unfortunately fortunately they weren’t interested due to the high development cost. Yes it does cost them quite a bit more to build such services.

So I shared the idea with my business partner Ash (from Peerglobe Technology) and him being a foodie person got quite excited about it. In fact we think we are quite ideal candidates to make this project happen. After all we have devoted over 3500 hours developing social networking infrastructure called the Anahita™ Social Networking Engine and have done well over 2500 hours of iphone and ipad app development in our team The PurpleRat Tribe of Companies. With over 6000 hours combined experienced in mobile and social networking technologies and the fact that we were both born hungry, making the TineyRecipe project happen seemed like a no brainer.

Regardless of whether or not this project turns out to become the next best hit in the mobile social networking niche, we still think that it will be a quite fun venture to do. We think sharing food recipes goes back to the caveman era. It is a human way to connect and share the love. Taste buds are the path to other people’s hearts.

This project will also be contributing quite a bit of knowledge and experience to the Anahita™ project in areas such as developing saas services, mobile accessibility, scaling up, and developing iPhone and iPad SDKs that will be released under open source licenses to the community. That means many future startups will be able to benefit from the developed knowledge to launch their own world liberation plans.

We are celebrating 10k code commits for Anahita

Anahita 10,000 code commits

Anahita™ is the open source social networking software that we have been developing for the past 3 years and we have just passed 10,000 code commits to the Anahita code repository. That will be over 3400 hours of work done by 2 people, myself and Ash Sanieyan from PeerGlobe Technology who is the architect of the Anahita framework following the true Nodes-Graphs-Stories architecture.

Anahita is both a powerful framework for developing custom social applications and a great platform for hosting them.

We often joke that Anahita is RAD, SAASY, and Social pointing out the facts that Anahita is a Rapid Application Development framework which is great for developing Software As A Service social networking business projects.

We are currently working on the Anahita 1.6 and 1.7 codebase which will bring many new possibilities and improvements to the overal design of the software. This also means that the next 4 months are going to be very exciting times for us.

To celebrate the 10k code commits we are currently offering a 35% discount coupon for the Anahita Premium Tribe membership. The coupon is only valid for the next 72 hours, so if you have been waiting for a good saving to join the Anahita premium tribe, now is the time. To read the announcement and get the coupon code go to this blog post on Anahitapolis: Anahita is celebrating 10,000 code commits

New Premium Plans on Anahitapolis

Until now Anahitapolis (home of Anahita project) has been offering only one premium plan which provided complete access to all the Anahitapolis resources. In the mean time some premium members required private consulting with us so we could help them with their social networking related project. During those meetings, we often discuss topics such as Anahita social app development, code reviews, and development of a strategy on how to save time and cost as well as reducing the involved risks.

Anahitapolis is currently offering 3 Premium Plans: Platinum, Gold, and Titanium. The last 2 are bundled with 2 and 12 hours of private consulting hours at discounted rate which makes them great values for premium tribe members who are currently developing a social networking project or service.

Oh Hello there I’m still here

The PurpleRat Team: Talia, Ash, Rastin (myself)

The PurpleRat Team: Talia, Ash, and Rastin (myself)

Here comes a post after 18 months of not updating this blog. I have been fully engaged with the 2 projects and brands that we have been growing with my business partners Ash (from Peerglobe Technology) and Talia (TACN Studio) and that left me with very little time to update this blog. As you can see the rmd Studio blog has now been revived under an actual domain name RastinMehr.com.

A lot has happened during the past 18 months:

Last December we have co-founded our own tribe called the PurpleRat Tribe of companies which consists of rmd Studio, Peerglobe Technology, and TACN STudio. Our focus is developing mobile technologies. Purplerat.com provides custom iphone, ipad, and android apps development mainly in the Vancouver, BC, Canada area. We are however available to do custom projects for the clients outside British Columbia as well as Canada.

This January We have also officially launched the Anahitapolis website which is the home to the Anahita Social Networking Engine Project. A Social Engine or Social Networking Engine is basically the foundation you need to develop your social networking projects of any kind. It provides you a framework to build custom apps and a platform to host them. There are currently several other social engine projects happening in the world such as Elgg Social Engine, BuddyPress, Diaspora, and Appleseed (Thank you Wikipedia).

I can see that many future Internet services will be developed using different types of social engine technologies and as it was in the ReadWriteWeb (Web2.0) era, most of the action will be in the open source world.

While we fully appreciate a diverse ecosystem, yet as the creators of Anahita we would like to see her as the foundation of many future social networking technologies and businesses. We have been quite productive so far. Anahita project has had 9000 code commits done over 3200 hours and currently provides a collection of 5 stable social apps. More will be added as the project moves forward. You can read the 2nd quarterly report about the Anahita project yourself.

You will be noticing changes to the rmd Studio website as well. It is time to simplify things a bit. Simple is more manageable.

Thank You Nooku and Beyounic teams for presenting the Anahita project

We would like to thank the Nooku and Beyounic teams for presenting the Anahita project at the Joomla Day Italia Rome and Nooku presentation. I must say nothing is more encouraging and energizing to us after long sleepless days of coding when a pack of truly awesome friends and brilliant minds spread the word for us with lots of enthusiasm half way across the planet. Ash and I feel truly blessed, appreciated and fortunate to meet and work with the Nooku (twitter: @nooku) and Beyounic (twitter: @beyounic) teams. Thank you for being so awesome :)
